Weekend Wrap-up & Tune of the Day: Mikkel Metal – Kenton (Marcel Dettmann Remix)

Long weekend this one and a free Monday so I feel like a few words on it are mandatory right about now.

First of all I’d like to appologise to the Selectro guys and the crowd down at Iarmaroc Festival for choosing not to present myself for my slot on Saturday. Unfortunately the fact that the festival staff did not bother to ensure the minimum tech rider for the stage where I was supposed to perform (no stage – literally) and the bad weather which made the forest terrain at the festival inaccessible lead to me seeing myself in the position to cancel on Saturday morning. I was really eager to play at the same decks with names like Drummatic Twins or Line Of Sight but in proper conditions not on an improv stage without a proper soundsystem and in a pool of mud with no proper way of getting to the festival area and back.

On the other hand the night caught me spinning a couple of tunes at an instant party downtown, in the morning, at what became a Dubstep and Drum&Bass party. All I got to say is that it was the first time in the last 5-6 months I found myself spinning Dubstep for this type of crowd and for personal reasons I have to say it was also the last. Unfortunately the way both the sounds and the crowds transformed since the movement started back in 2006, since we launched Dubstep.ro in what will remain an epic event in Frame Club in 2007 and even since Dubstep.ro, Yazee and Get Messy fusioned in two different collab brands last year to bring you names like Caspa, Skream, Tes La Rok or Loefah & Sgt. Pokes – is actually too much for me. I’m sorry to say all the essence, vibe and feeling of these events is completely and irrevocably lost. Dubstep became what it shouldn’t have – low BPM Jump-up Drum&Bass / Darkstep. The lack of quality these events and crowds push out there nowadays has now reached a point of no return and I’m happy to say this sound has now definitely become a part of the past for me. I hope it is also clear I do not want to offend anyone involved in this movement or events but there are people out there that have to realise when too much is actually too much and also people out there who need a complete reset of their system of values and their understanding of music and culture.

A massive shout for Tomasan & VRT spinning at Baraka on Saturday in what was to become an epic set from the duo. Much love!

Am scos de la cutie un mix ceva mai vechi (2008 sau 2009, sfarsit de 2008 inceput de 2009 – chiar nu mai tin minte, pe acolo). Toata treaba e un exclusive Techno facut cap coada din piese care mi-au placut maxim la vremea respectiva – cand mai aveam timp si chef sa dau un digging dupa netlabel-uri si alte cele 🙂 Mixul n-a mai iesit la momentul respectiv ca promo. Mai mult, daca ma gandesc, pana acum vreo luna l-au avut fix 2 sau 3 persoane inafara de mine. Am decis totusi sa-i dau drumul la o ascultare pana la urma. Enjoy!

Cum la prima editie pe 12 Martie i-ati vazut pe ALEXANDRU JIJIAN si TOMASAN sau pe TONE si FOUCHAT infruntandu-se la pupitrul de DJ de data asta perechile battle-ului experimental s-au diversificat si line-up-ul s-a marit.

Invitatii speciali ai acestei editii sunt HIJACK si VRT. Cei doi nu s-au mai intalnit la back2back la platane, astfel vorbim de o mica premiera, iar participantii editiei trecute vor aparea si ei din nou la DJ decks, numai ca de data asta ALEXANDRU JIJIAN il va intalni pe TONE, iar TOMASAN pe FOUCHAT.
